The Znamensky Memorial, IAAF GPII meeting held earlier this afternoon was highlighted by a powerful display of women’s 800m running. After yesterday’s bad weather, during the first day of non-GP competition, the rains went away and conditions were good.

Svetlana Cherkasova set a World season lead of 1:56.93 meters in the women’s 800 meters at the Znamenski Memorial, an IAAF Grand Prix II meeting, held in Russian city of Kazan today.



Anton Liuboslavski sets a Russian season lead of 20.71 in shot put!

Anton Liuboslavski has set a Russian season lead of 20.71 meters in the men’s shot put on his fourth attempt at the Znamenski memorial, that is being held in Kazan.

The Znamenski Memorial has started in Russia’s city of Kazan. The event consists of two days of competitions, Russian competitions on first day and an IAAF Grand Prix II meeting on second one. Yekaterina Khoroshikh became the first winner of the Memorial.

Russian juniors gain fours wins in Manheim.

Russian junior athletes won four events at the Internationale Juniorengala, held on 18-19 June in German city of Manheim.



Russian women win again.

Another four victories on the final day of the SPAR European Cup ensured Russia’s women won their ninth European Cup in a row at the Stadio Luigi Ridolfi this afternoon. Taking a maximum eight points from four of the day’s seven events – the 1500m, high jump, shot put and 4x400m relay – Russia amassed a total of 131.5 points for their 11th triumph in European Cup history. It has now won all but two European Cups since 1993.

Russia’s women move into commanding lead.

Russia extended its lead at the top of the SPAR European Cup women’s competition to more than 20 points on the second day with a haul of four wins and two second places from today’s nine events. Their total of 84.5 points keeps them well ahead of Germany, on 64, while Poland are fighting for second spot just two behind.

Vitali Shkurlatov set a Russian season best of 8.15 m, when he won the men’s long jump at the 7th Reunion Internacional Ciudad de Rivas, held in Spanish city of Rivas on 14 June.



Sergei Makarov takes over IAAF Javelin Throw Rankings.

Sergei Makarov is the new leader in the Men’s Javelin Throw Event Ranking. The reigning World champion moved up from 3rd place to take over at the top following his performance in Ostrava.

Maria Bolikova and Sergei Kliugin take third places in Luzern.

Maria Koroteeva and Sergei Kliugin took third places in their events at the Spitzen Leichtathletik, held in Switzerland’s city of Luzern yesterday. Bolikova clocked 11.54 seconds in the women’s 100 meters and Kliugin cleared 2.21 meters in the men’s high jump.

Maria Koroteeva placed second in the women’s 100mH at the Goeteborg Games, held in Sweden yesterday. She achieved 12.99 seconds. Olga Kaliturina cleared 1.85m in the women’s high jump and took third place.



Yaroslav Rybakov and Natalia Sadova thirds at Athens Grand Prix.

Yaroslav Rybakov placed third with 2.30m in the men’s high jump at the Athens Grand Prix yesterday. He lost 2cm to Czech’s Jaroslav Baba and Sweden's Stefan Holm. Natalia Sadova was third in the women’s discus throw – 62.69m



4x200m World Record ratified.

The women's 4x200m Relay World Record of 1:32.41, which was set on 29 January 2005 in Glasgow (GBR), has recently been ratified. Team members - Yekaterina Kondratieva, Irina Khabarova, Yulia Pechenkina, Yulia Guschina.

Oleg Mishukov and Ramil Aritkulov won their events at the 8th Internacional Meeting d’Athletisme, held on 12 June in Spanish city of Gava.

Viacheslav Shabunin set a Russian leading of 3:40.46 minutes in the men’s 1500 meters at the DKB-DLV Meeting in Germany’s city of Ulm, held yesterday.

Irina Simagina and Natalia Sadova have won their events at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial, held in Poland’s capital tonight. Irina achieved 6.74 meters in the long jump and Natalia – 65.84m in the discus throw.

Russian athletes have won in three events at the Lille Metropole, an IAAF Grand Prix meeting, held in Villeneuve d'Ascq, France this evening.

With less than one month to go to Athletissima 2005 - IAAF Super Grand Prix - which takes place on 5 July in the Stade de la Pontaise, the organizing committee of the prestigious Lausanne meeting have prepared several innovations for the 30th edition.

Olympic bronze medalist Sergei Makarov achieved a world leading of 88.84m on his first attempt in the men’s javelin throw at the Golden Spike, this year’s second meeting of the IAAF Super Grand Prix, held in Czech’s Ostrava yesterday.



Russian team for SPAR European Cup.

The 26th SPAR European Cup will be held during 17-19 June in Florence, Italy. Athletes from 12 countries will participate in the event. Russia will be represented by 51 athletes: 25 men and 26 women.



Aleksandr Pogorelov – Russian Athlete of the Mounth.

Aleksandr Pogorelov has got 59 votes of 196 of the website visitors during the last edition of the Athlete of the Month vote. He was named Russian Athlete of May. The second place was took by Natalia Sadova, who got 31 votes. Irina Simagina became third with 25 votes.

Olympic champion Olga Kuzenkova toped the IAAF World Hammer Throw Event Rankings. She has now 1277 scores, that is 9 scores more than Yipsi Moreno’s scores.

Tatiana Levina won the women’s 400m at 57 Venizelia, an EAA Permit Meeting, held in Greek city of Chania yesterday. She clocked 51.66sec. Nadezhda Bazhenova placed second in the women’s triple jump with 14.27m.

Tatiana Levina and Yelena Oleinikova took first places in their event during the Meeting Sevilla 2005, held in Spain city of Sevilla yesterday. She achieved 51.74sec in the women’s 400m and 13.96m in the women’s triple jump correspondingly. Olga Kotliarova was second in the women’s 800m with 2.00,50min.

Olympic bronze medalist Tatiana Kotova won the women’s long jump at the Prefontaine Classic, an IAAF Grand Prix meeting, held on Saturday in USA’s city of Eugene. She achieved 6.80m.

Russian team dominate in Glasgow.

Russian team won at the Norwich Union International GBR-USA-RUS, held in Glasgow yesterday. Russian athletes scored 118 points, 10 points ahead of USA and 16 points ahead of Great Britain.

Yekaterina Aleksandrova and Tatina Ivanova win in Filothei.

Yekaterina Aleksandrova cleared 1.93 and won the high jump at the Women Gala in Filothei, Greece. Tatiana Ivanova won the long jump – 6.63m.

Olympic bronze medalist Danil Burkenia placed third in the men’s triple jump with 17.04m at the Memorial Primo Nebiolo, an IAAF Grand Prix II meeting, held yesterday in Italian city of Torino.

Yelena Oleinikova third in Hengelo.

Yelena Oleinikova placed third with 14.18m in the women’s triple jump at the THALES-FBK Games, an IAAF Prand Prix Games yesterday. Nadezhda Bazhenova was fourth with 14.17m.
